Student of the Month Story

Who - Melissa Pittman
What - Student of the Month
Where - James Bowie High School
When - The month of April
Why - She was nominated for Student of the Month
How - For making the Bowie art program and NAHS a success.

Beginning: Melissa Pittman, a senior here at James Bowie High School, was picked out of over 3,000 students to be Student of the Month. She has worked hard in the Bowie Arts Program, and participated in lots of fundraising.

She has dedicated her time and talent to the Bowie Arts Program, and participated in lots of fundraising. Melissa has recruited freshman for the Arts program, and hopped her creativity and positivity has inspired and encouraged other students to express themselves in the arts.

“I’m neutral about receiving the award. So many other people here at Bowie deserve it, I take it more as a compliment than an achievement,” replied Pittman when asked if she feels she deserves the award.

Pittman is very modest, and tries to let other people shine just as much as her, although she still thinks the award is an amazing achievement.

“I was very surprised to be recognized,” Pittman when asked if she was surprised to be given this honor.

12th grader Pittman has never been recognized for much of her work here at Bowie high and with the arts program, so she was taken by surprise!

“The trick to being successful is to surround yourself with good people, and to be ready for any obstacle that comes your way," Pittman tells us the secret to her success.
